King Varian Wrynn is the former (currently missing) ruler of Stormwind, son of King Llane Wrynn. Following his disapearance a few months ago, his 10-year-old son, Anduin Wrynn, has been named ruler of Stormwind.
Born to King Llane, Varian was a young child when his father was assassinated during the First War. Anduin Lothar served as Lord Regent of Stormwind during the flight to Lordaeron and the retaking of Stormwind during the Second War. Varian was instated as king when he reached the Age of Ascension, and served as the ruler of Stormwind during the rebuilding of the kingdom. He was one of the few rulers to provide continued support to the failing Alliance of Lordaeron following the end of the Second War. (Varian may be one of the children with Lothar in the image of the exodus from Azeroth.)
Varian Wrynn was abducted while traveling to Theramore, in a plot involving the Defias.
In World of Warcraft[]
Up until Patch 1.10.0, he could be found on Alcaz Island near Theramore Isle, where he was being held captive in a dungeon.
Trivia[]
- Varian's name was originally Varien, as written in the Warcraft II: Beyond the Dark Portal manual. It has been changed to Varian in World of Warcraft and the section: "The Alliance Splinters" of Chapter 4 of the History of Warcraft on the official site. When spelled with an "a" there is the implication that Varian was named for his grandmother, Queen Varia.
