Shard is usually a type of magical element needed in Enchanting recipes and can be created by using [Disenchant] on rare magical items:

Warlocks can create soul shards by casting [Drain Soul] or [Soul Harvest]. Soul shards are separate items and have special bags designed only to carry them.
