PvE Healing Builds[]

PvE Core Holy Paladin Build (51/0/0)

Almost all PvE Holy builds have a 51 point set of core holy talents, the only room for flexability in the distribution of talents is whether you decide to finish putting points on Improved Lay on Hands or use that spare talent point in one of the other trees.

The remaining 20 points are spent then spent on either a Retribution Subspec (going for increased critical hit) or a Protection Subspec (going for increased raid survivability). Both are very suitable raiding specs; however a Retri Subspec is easier for those who are new or are still leveling up holy paladins compared to the Prot Subspec. This is because the full benefits of a Prot Subspec is only unleashed during raids.

Of a small note, the empty major glyph slot is depentant on whether your main spell is Holy Light (Glyph of Holy Light) or Flash of Light (Glyph of Flash of Light). Most paladins will however get Glyph of Holy Light regardless. What goes into the empty minor glyph slot however is up to your own personal opinions: Glyph of the Wise, Glyph of Sense Undead and Glyph of Blessing of Kings are all possible choices.


PvE Holy Paladin (Retribution Subspec) (51/0/15)

A Retribution Subspec Holy Paladin brings better raid survivability has increased critical hit compared to a Prot Subspec. This build focuses on the crit talents to exploit as fully as possible the fact that we are single target tank healers and illumination.

The two points spent on Improved Judgements can also be put into Improved Blessing of Might. The Improved Blessing of Might is always welcomed by melee classes whenever a retri paladin isn't around (in parties, 10 man and on the rare occasion 25 man raids). Therefore the choice becomes one of either putting the raid first or increase your judgements (Reminder: you are a healer so you will not be using your judgements on every cooldown). The split between paladins is about 50-50 when it comes to this decision.

The last five points are then put into:

  • Divinity
  • Sanctity of Battle
  • Finishing Improved Lay on Hands
  • Pursuit of Justice (Only really found in those still leveling their paladin.)

Whist they are a lot of valid possible combinations of the above: the most common setup seen in those raiding as Retri Subspec paladins is 5/5 Divinity with nothing in anything else. The Retri Subspec is easier for those who are new or are still leveling up holy paladins compared to the Prot Subspec. This is because the full benefits of a Prot Subspec is only unleashed during raids.


PvE Holy Paladin[1] (Flash of Light) (51/5/15)

PurposePvE Holy Paladin for maximum Flash of Light use.

Allows maximum critical chance for Flash of Light allowing practically endless heal time. Along with Seal of Light/Judgement of Light proves to be very effective in raids.


PvE Holy Paladin (Protection Subspec) (51/17/0)

A Protection Subspec Holy Paladin brings better raid survivability by providng quicker cooldowns on hand spells (especially of note Hand of Protection) and Divine Guardian, which is used as a raid wide damage mitigation for time of spike damages.

Although at first it seems strange that Improved Righteous Fury is choosen over Toughness, there are many reasons why. Firstly, as a healer, in a raid fighting against a single boss (no adds), you should never overagro a raid tank (unless the difference between you and tank is ridiculously big). Secondly, Toughness only increases physical damage whist as Improved Righteous Fury reduces all damage. Most of the damage that you will recive as a healer will be magic in nature (therefore bypassing armour). Therefore it's useful to use [Improved Righteous Fury]] against any single raid boss encouter with no adds (e.g. Lord Marrowgar) - but always remember to remove it when you go against any bosses with adds (e.g Lady Deathwhisper) or when there's more then one boss at a time (e.g. Blood Prince Council).

The last 3 points are then used in one of the following combinations:

  • 3/3 Improved Devotion Aura
  • 2/2 Improved Lay on Hands + 3/5 Benediction

The first option provides a 6% increase to healing with any aura, providing an alternative to the Restoration Druid 6% raid wide healing buff. The second retains some mana reduction from the retribution tree and further improves Lay on Hands. Both options have reasonable agruements and both can be seen in those raiding as Prot Subspec paladins.


PvE Holy Paladin[2] (59/5/7)

With this build you're going to want Seal of Truth as your single-target DPS seal. Seal of Command is used for AoE. With Retribution Paladin DPS, the order in which you use your abilities is less of a "rotation" as it is "spell x > spell y > spell z."

The priority of your abilities is listed below:

1. Inquisition If your level 81+

2. Templar's Verdict

3. Crusader Strike

4. Hammer of Wrath - Only if target is below 20% health.

5. Exorcism - Only use if Art of War procs.

6. Judgement

7. Holy Wrath

8. Consecration


PvE Tankretadin[]

For those of you who want to have the option of tanking while still being primarily specced to do damage, this partial hybrid build will allow you to continue to generate high levels of threat while improving your ability to reduce damage taken, boost the quality of healing you will receive, and provide the increased percentages to parrying and dodging. Given the paucity of tanks and healers on most servers, this build will allow you to serve as a tank if fully-specced tanks are not available.

PvP Retribution Build[]

Playing a Retribution paladin in PvP is quite diffrent from playing it in PvE, however the core abilities stay the same. These builds are designed for good survivability by including good damage and stun resistance, whilst also supporting high damage output. It's also focused on avoiding redundant talens such as Vindication and Eye for an Eye which may seem like valid choices for PvP at first glance but are fairly meaningless since their effects are rather trivial if one stops to think a step ahead. Another part of these specs are that they're focused on Seal of Command for high burst damage since it can often be problematic to get enough stacks out of Seal of Vengeance or Seal of Corruption respectively, against a Player foe.

Using The Build

This build is to be used with Seal of Command, Blessing of Kings, Judgement of Wisdom and Righteous Fury active at all times. However, when encountering foes who are mounted and will try to escape the fight it's adviceable to start the fight with Judgement of Justice instead of Judgement of Wisdom to cripple their escape. It's also adviced to use Sacred Shield often to minimize incoming damage. Art of War procs are to be used for Exorcism whenever it's up and Flash of Light the rest of the time, to compensate for Judgement of Wisdom instead of Judgement of Light. Avenging Wrath can be useful to open with, followed by your offensive rotation but can in some cases be more useful in the later stages of a fight.



DPS Central PvP Build LEVEL 80 (0/18/53)[]

This build focuses on two things: pvp, and dps. In the prot tree, the 15% str is a must, and forget kings, because it is garbage and a waste of points. Then of course get Guardian's Favor and Stoicism. In the third tier, you may balance your points out however you want, doing a 3/3 and 2/5 or a 1/3 and a 4/5 etc, as you will always finish off the prot tree with 18 points and the Imp HoJ as your last talent. For the ret tree, you basically follow the same set-up as the BC cookie-cutter. If you want Sheath of Light , that is fine, but I would rather have the 25% inc for might, for that gives me a big amount of extra dps. Yes, it does entitle better healing, but not necessarily better surviving. Of course, no Fantaticism. It is a pretty simple set-up. Enjoy.

I don't know how old Moganthrom's spec is but it did not work for me so I reconstructed it best I could. With only 1 point in Righteous Vengeance since it can be dispelled as a cover debuff/anti-stealth dot.

With Swift Retribution for 3% haste (0/17/54)

Paco's Retribution Arena PvP Build[]

This build shines in arena play, but is also capable of withstanding large scale battles such as Wintergrasp and general battlegrounds. It focuses on utility and survivability. In Retribution PvP, some of the damage from PvE talents must be sacrificed in order to gain advantages over other players. This build plays to a paladins strengths, which include burst, utility, and survivability.

Arena pvp build (Patch 3.2)

This is a PvP build for Retribution paladins I made. You might want to get Divinity instead of Divine Strength but thats your own opinion. You will get less damage from other players thanks to Improved Righteous Fury and Toughness. It's easy to get near other, hostile players thanks to Improved Hammer of Justice. The 52 points in Retribution are placed so you will do balanced, PvP damage and have great survival chances. You do not have Improved Blessing of Might becouse it would be dispelled. Just like Vindication. You have Seal of Command for a lot of damage and cleaving. The paladin has great chance on instant Flash of Light or Exorcism thanks to The Art of War. Repentance is great for interrupting spellcast or preventing a hostile player from running away.


This build is to be used with: Seal of Command, Blessing of Kings and Judgement of Light. as for glyphs: Glyph of Seal of Command is a must to keep you mana up. Glyph of Judgement is nice for damage and the last one ill leave up to you.

This build provides mana efficiency that outperforms a deep holy build in Pve soloing. Especially with the level 71 spell Divine Plea. This build loses beacon, ranged judgements and other high-end holy goods to get Repentance, as well as Divine Purpose, Judgements of the Wise and the usual loads of crit. This is nearly, but not quite, a hybrid build; Seal of Command and other damage talents can be taken according to play-style to convert it.
