Limited supply items, such as recipes, are sold in limited quantities from vendors. Once the supply has been exhausted, the item will not be available from that vendor for anywhere from a few seconds to several hours.
If you are waiting for a limited supply item to become available, keep in mind that you must close the vendor window and re-open it to see any newly-restocked patterns.
